1. Are the courses taught in English or Mandarin?

All of the courses at BITC are taught in English by our Chef-Instructors. BITC functions in English as an international organization.

As student comes from different countries, as such English is used as a common language. Mandarin is used upon request based on the class and students profile.

2. Will I be a Pastry Chef once I complete my study at BITC?

Student will not be quite ready for the challenge upon graduating from BITC alone. To be a successful Pastry Chef takes formal training, talent and many years of experience working at numerous hotels, pastry kitchen and training under many different pastry chefs.

3. I am not working in the related industry, can I attend the courses you conduct?

You may so long as you have an interest in baking in some situation. I strongly suggest you register for our Baking Principles programme. The programme last for 4 hours x 5 sessions and allow you to take home what you made during the class.

4. My company is not in the bakery, confectionery, flour or food related company, can I apply for SDF subsidy?

SDF subsidy is strictly for the bakery, confectionery, flour or food related companies.

Those in the related industry will have to apply the course through SDF EasyNet at www.sdf.gov.sg.

5. If I am unable to complete the full Nitec in Baking course within the course period, can I take the rest of the course at a later date?

Apply for one of the Nitec in Baking course. It will give you excellent grounding in baking skills technique. You may consider to continue at some future time i.e. complete the six modules within five (5) years. Please write in to the BITC Administrator to seek for deferment and obtain a copy of the Deferment Request Form from the Student Administration Office.

6. I am being retrenched and have no experience in baking, can I take the Nitec in Baking course?

Please call up the various self-help groups such as the Community Development Council (CDC), Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC), Mendaki, SINDA or Eurasian Association (EA) for assistance.

7. Is there any minimum age to apply at your training centre?

In order to apply for the course, the minimum age for enrolment is 16 years old onwards.

8. Would there be any holiday break?

There are no holiday break other than Singapore National holidays.

9. I am a foreign student, when can I open a bank account in Singapore?

You can open a bank account only after you have obtained your Student Pass. You will have to bring along your passport and Student’s Pass when you open a bank account.

10. What is the cost of living in Singapore?

These expenses may vary depending on your spending habits.
